Double page spread
I wanted my double page spread to be easy and simple to read. With a powerful image on the left and chatty, fun writing on the right. Using quirky titles e.g. 'Live at the o2' and 'Mr Ronson is back'. This starts to pull the readers into the magazine wanting more about the article and finding out what Mark Ronson has been up to. Using rhetorical question such as 'Has Mr Ronson got new hair?' making the readers question themselves. I have tried to create a vibe on this double page spread and throughout my magazine. I want my magazine to resesmble a music journal in a way, giving all the latest gossip and information on music there is to know!
I did not want my sub headings and phrases to be in normal font so I tried finding textured writing to bring out the funkiness within this magazine. With the main heading looking like it has been ripped out of a newspaper, demonstrating a rebellious attitude in it.
I did not want to use too many colours as it would clash with the front cover and content page.I mostly used blacks and white, and a bit of purple to try and keep it subtle and sophisticated.
I am happy with the outcome of my double page spread and the way it looks and feels. If I could change anything I would have added a bit more writing to fill up the space in the bottom right hand corner.
Content page
This is my final finished piece for my content page . I have tried to capture some of the areas which a professional magazine would have used. I tried to make my magazine more realistic and resemble a professional music magazine. Using the skills I have learnt I created this magazine. I tried not to make my contents page look over crowed, by using a simple layout.
The main Image which I used, edited well using the lighting shinning down and the angle on Ellie made it much more powerful, even if the photo was a bit out of focus.
The other part of this content page, which made it more effective was the numbering of the sections. I added a brighter colour to it e.g. Red made it stand out more and was eye catching.
I found it difficult to find another image which was suitable to add to this content page, so I ended up included more writing nearer the bottom of the page. I think this would have looked better if I had an extra image, the writing looked effective but was a bit plain. I tried to make my fonts easy to read and more exciting, rather than using the same font all the way through!
Trying to line up the writing and make it fit well was fiddley. I could not get it to look perfect, but I am much happier how it looks now than before. The one other thing I am not sure about is the writing at the bottom right of the page, as i am not sure whether it fits with the rest of the content page.
This contents page fits with the audience I am targeting making it easy to read with fun and chatty language.

Front Cover
I found it hard to get a suitable picture for the front cover. In the end I came across the Jimmy Hendrix's issue in NME. Trying to duplicate the pose which Hendrix does was pretty straightforward, but trying to find a similar jacket which re-created the same look was difficult. I had to make do with a red jacket and upped the contrast of the colour.
The editing of the image itself turned out very well indeed. To make the image stand out from the background I created a shadow by changing the contrast to show the main image bursting out! I wanted to have different colour contrasts just like Jimmy's picture, so I made the clothes vibrant colours and skin areas showing as black and white.
I wanted my front cover to be similar so I decided to scan my own hand writing onto the computer and placed it around the central image. This worked well, but to improve it further and to make it busier I should have added more writing around the central image.
Choosing the colours to feature on my front cover and to go with the main image was difficult. I’m still not sure if I have got it perfect still, as I did not want the colour of the writing to distract from the main image.
I tried using marketing techniques used by professional magazines, to entice buyers e.g. using cheap subscriptions in an attempt to hook the readers.
Using key images for the magzine such as a barcode, date, price, and main image, my front cover started to come together and look like a branded magazine you would see on the magazine stands at Tescos. On refelction,If I could change anything I would have added more writing and maybe changed the colours.

Collage for music magazine
I chose to do a music magazine for my media course work, rather than a moving image as this would show my creative side to this subject. Making a collage was the first step to help me gather ideas and work out what type of music magazine I wanted to focus on. Breaking my collage into different sections; from eye catching images to funky and unusal fonts, helped me to build up my ideas.
From my collage I worked out what type of things I wanted to include within my music magazine. From my collage ideas, I worked out that I wanted to go for an indi rock type of magazine for teenagers /young adults. Making the images and information fun and thrilling for the music seekers, looking for new and up coming bands.
